Onkyo HF Player

Onkyo HF Player gives you precise control over how your music sounds on an Android phone or tablet. The app focuses on high-fidelity playback and advanced sound shaping, so you can tune your headphones or speakers instead of settling for default audio. You can build and save your own EQ settings, choose presets designed by professional musicians, and play many Hi‑Res audio formats without paying extra for basic Hi‑Res playback.

Ultra-Precise Equalizer (Linear-Phase FIR)

Onkyo HF Player uses a touch-adjustable, linear-phase FIR equalizer that delivers 16,384 discrete bands of HD equalization. This design helps you adjust tone and detail while preserving audio quality. You can create custom presets for different headphones, genres, or listening environments, and you can also load optimized filters made specifically for compatible Onkyo headphones.

Hi-Res Audio Playback (No Extra Charge)

The app plays Hi‑Res formats on Android, including FLAC, WAV up to 192 kHz/24-bit, and DSD. It also supports features that improve the listening experience, such as automatic upsampling, artwork display, and lyric support when available.

Digital Output via USB DAC (Unlock for Full Output)

You can upgrade sound quality further by connecting external DAC/amp hardware such as the Onkyo DAC‑HA200/DAC‑HA300 or the Pioneer XPA‑700. HF Player can connect through USB to AOA 2.0 compatible Android devices, and you can also use OTG cables with USB-audio-compatible devices. To enable full Hi‑Res digital output features, you need to purchase the Unlock Application and update to the full version.
Important note: When audio exceeds 88.2 kHz, the app downsamples output to 44.1 kHz in several scenarios (including some headphone, AOS/AOA, and OTG outputs—especially in the free version).

Playback, Library, and Listening Features

HF Player includes tools that make daily listening easier and more flexible:

• Updated interface and tab-based sorting (Artist, Album, Playlist, etc.), with adjustable tab order
• Folder-based playback
• Crossfade, shuffle, repeat (within a list), and resume playback
• Playlist creation/editing, plus quick “Up Next” queue management
• Album art and lyric display (petit lyrics support)
• Last.fm scrobbling

Advanced Audio Tools (Paid-Version Options)

The paid version adds features aimed at consistent volume and DSD handling:

• Real-time DSD conversion
• ReplayGain support
• Real-time volume normalization
• USB device volume control using Android hardware volume keys (for compatible external DACs)

Streaming and Store Integrations

The app supports the AWA subscription service (login, curated lists, and streaming playback). It can also link with Qobuz (where available) so you can download purchased music directly.

• DSF / DSD-IFF with DSD (2.8 MHz), Double-rate (5.6 MHz), Quad-rate (11.2 MHz), plus DoP and PCM conversion
• FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF (up to 384 kHz), Ogg Vorbis (up to 192 kHz)
  Note: If a track’s sampling rate exceeds 88.2 kHz, the app may downsample to 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, depending on your output method and version.
